Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Founded by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity is a true world leader in addressing the issues of poor housing conditions. The Northwest Metro Atlanta affiliate was founded in 1986 as Cobb County Habitat. Since 1986, they have helped 468 families to become homeowners by building and renovating affordable houses that families earning 30 to 80 percent of the county’s median family income could afford.
This past April, Legacy volunteers traveled to this affiliate in Atlanta to help build a Habitat for Humanity home. The Legacy Foundation was glad to join two great families for a day of painting. The Foundation also provided a grant to support the home build. To learn more, visit www.habitat.org.
