ConKerr Cancer started when Cindy Kerr’s son was diagnosed with cancer in 2002 and she began making pillowcases to brighten up his hospital room and to put a smile on his face. He loved it so much that she began making pillowcases for other children at the Oncology Unit at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Their main goal is to make hospital stays as pleasant as possible for chronically ill children. These special pillowcases, all handmade by volunteers, have brightened the lives of many children nationwide and in South Africa. Our grant provided the necessities needed to make these special pillowcases, such as material and threading. They are currently expanded internationally into Canada and South Africa and have a goal to provide a pillowcase to every seriously ill child in North America by 2015.
