“Alone, we can do so little; together we can do so much” – Helen Keller - Legacy Advisors

Old Pine Community Center – Established and founded in 1977 and based in Philadelphia, their mission is to enrich the lives of neighbors and communities focused on addressing food insecurities and building community engagement. Volunteers partner with organizations to provide weekly grocery care packages to local families experiencing food insecurities. They make sure they are provided with nutritional and well-balanced items that meet their needs and requests. These special volunteers make over 200 meals each week for their local Philadelphia families. They are unique in that they help supplement families’ existing meal programs by providing lunch and dinner meals for the weekends. Many times, the meal programs are for Monday through Friday only, so this is a great way of making sure these families get the nutrition needed each and every day.
In addition, children and families benefit from the availability of flexible and affordable after-school care programs. They are available to students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Students can be safely picked up from various schools and transported to a care facility and provided with homework help, snacks, exercise time and much more. Parents can breathe a sigh of relief knowing their children are in good hands and being cared for after school.

And we aren’t done yet! Old Pine Community Center offers a 9-week Summer Camp filled with fun, arts and crafts, sports, games, music, field trips and water play, to mention a few! Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided every day. All after-school programs are made accessible to all, by providing financial assistance for families if needed.

Community engagement is a driving force of the center. Their sense of community and volunteering brings neighborhoods and families together to engage in activities such as Thanksgiving dinner, winter coat drives, dinner for special events, and crafts to name a few.

The Legacy Foundation provided a grant to support their healthy and fresh meal programs for their local communities.
