The Garage Community and Youth Center – Founded in 2001 by a local Pastor, who had a passion to serve his community and saw the need for a community center. That passion became a reality when he transformed a reclaimed vehicle service garage into what is now known as, The Garage Community & Youth Center in Kennett Square. Their mission is to empower youth to pursue their potential academically, relationally, and spiritually. For over two decades, the Garage has been a force in the community and recently opened another location in Avondale with the same force and success! Their programs have benefitted so many of the local youth with life changing experiences, empowering them to grow as individuals and overcome life’s obstacles and challenges! The Garage has sometimes been called a “second home” by many. This organization has helped communities come together and provide education, life skills, and so much more to our children and youth in need. They assist in offering what they refer to as, “a cycle of hopefulness” by providing the support and programs to help shape them into individuals filled with purpose and pride. As with most charitable organizations, the pandemic was a very difficult and challenging time for so many families. The Garage and its communities worked together to help during that journey of many unknowns. Today, families still struggle with increased food insecurity, mental health issues and financial and health concerns and hardships. The Legacy Foundation has supported this amazing organization since 2013, providing grants for resources such as updated technology and a professional software database program which is key in being able to provide the many programs and services dedicated to their community and our youth in need! Most recently, The Legacy Foundation provided a grant for the continuation of technology and software programs for their new Avondale location and other programs at their Kennett Square location.
