Angel Flight East was founded in 1992 and is a nonprofit organization comprised of volunteer pilots, ground volunteers and a small staff. The mission of Angel Flight East is to provide free air transportation to qualified patients and their families by arranging flights to distant medical facilities, delivering supplies to disaster areas and reuniting families during desperate times. These volunteer pilots, using their own planes, fly patients to the medical facilities needed for their evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of their medical conditions free of charge. With more than 425 volunteer pilots, based in 22 states, over 750 missions were coordinated in 2009 alone. The Legacy Foundation provided a grant to their 20th Wings and Wheels Event held Saturday, September 11th, 2010 in Blue Bell, PA. It was a community event filled with entertainment, music, food, children’s activities, antique cars, vintage aircrafts and model trains. Our grant provided the children’s activities which included the Franklin Institute’s traveling science show, beanie bounce, face painting and an amusement ride, the Jumpin’ Jet. Many Legacy associates and their families attended the event and a great time was had by all. For more information, please visit their website at www.angelflighteast.org.
