Angel Flight East is a nonprofit organization comprised of volunteer pilots, ground volunteers and a small staff. Their mission is to provide free air transportation to qualified patients and their families by arranging flights to distant medical facilities, delivering supplies to disaster areas and reuniting families during desperate times. Angel Flight East is Pennsylvania’s first and largest provider of free air transportation for medically needy patients. The pilots not only volunteer their time but their own planes to fly patients to the medical facilities needed for their evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, all free of charge. Infants, children and youth constitute one-half of the patients they transport. In addition, providing transportation of family members is a critical component of their service. The Legacy Foundation provided a grant for their annual Wings and Wheels event held at Wings Field in Blue Bell, PA. It was a community event filled with entertainment, music, food, children’s activities, antique cars, vintage aircrafts, model trains and free plane rides. Our grant provided the children’s activities which included the Franklin Institute’s traveling science show, beanie bounce, face painting and the Jumpin’ Jet. This is an annual event held every September to raise awareness for this great cause. For more information, please visit their website at www.angelflighteast.org.
