City Team Ministries, located in Chester, PA, is a very special ministry supporting the poor and homeless throughout the Delaware Valley. It started in 1957 in San Jose, CA, and has since become a national organization providing hot meals, safe shelter, emergency food boxes and clothing for hundreds of thousands of low income families in need. In addition to these services, the Chester site offers a recovery program for men with drug and alcohol problems, adult learning, clothing, men’s shelter, and mother and infant care services. Mothers with at-risk young children stop by every Wednesday afternoon to receive diapers, formula and other baby items. Many families live in poverty in this area and are unable to celebrate holidays such as Christmas. The children of these families often lack the bare necessities and often do not find any presents under the tree. City Team Ministries created a way to bring low income families holiday food boxes and toys for the children through a volunteer program. Over 2,600 children received toys so they could celebrate the holiday season with joy and happiness. Many lives have been transformed and given hope that real change is possible. The Legacy Foundation provided a grant which helped to purchase bicycles, toys and food for these very special families. For more information, and how you may be able to help, please visit www.cityteam.org.
